Should my students register in the School-level category or Indy category for competition?
Students can compete in either category, but we suggest that students compete in the school category for their grade level (K-5, 6-8, 9-12) in order to compete against similar aged participants.

Do I need any special programs or apps on my computing device to compete?
No. This competition is fully online. You will need a device and internet connection. We recommend using the Chrome browser for this event.

Do I have to know how to code to enter the competition?
No prior coding experience is needed. We invite all to register and compete! Completing the haunted house is meant to be achievable by first time Python learners as young as age 10. But maximizing your score will be easier the more Python you learn, or bring to the competition.

What if I don’t register at the beginning of the competition. Can I still compete?
Yes, you can still compete for prizes. You can compete at any time between October 1-31st, but you MUST register by 11:59 PM CT on Friday, October 25, 2024, to be eligible to win prizes.

How many hours will it take to complete the Haunted House?
The amount of time to complete the Haunted House is dependent upon the skill level of the competitor. The estimated amount of time is between 4-40 hours, depending on strategy and gameplay.

How can I see my student's progress throughout the competition?
For this year's competition, teachers will have access to the Teacher Dashboard (opens in a new tab) for the Haunted Code Chronicles competition, which allows teachers to see each student's progress through the competition rooms.

Are Club groups competing separately from Classroom groups?
This year, all clubs and teacher-led classrooms are now combined within their respective categories. The Individual category allows participants to compete independently, without any school, club, or teacher affiliation.

Can I practice in the Free Pack: Haunted Code Chronicles before the competition begins?
Yes, you can access the Free Pack at any time. The competition scores will be reset to "0" once the competition begins October 1. If you work in the Free Pack before this time, your progress will be reset. New changes to the competition course will be available on Oct. 1.
