Welcome to the Haunted Code Chronicles—where coding meets the eerie and unknown! This year, we're back with spine-chilling challenges that promise to test your wits and skills like never before.
As the fog rolls in and the shadows lengthen, prepare to guide your CodeBot through mysterious mazes and terrifying trials, each more thrilling than the last. But beware—this year, we’ve added twists and turns that will keep even the most seasoned coders on their toes.
Whether you're a returning champion or a brave newcomer, the Haunted Code Chronicles is your chance to showcase your Python prowess and compete for spine-tingling prizes. So, gather your courage, sharpen your coding skills, and get ready to face the unknown.

Competition Categories
For the 2024 Haunted Code Chronicles, participants will compete in the following categories:
- Elementary (K-5)
- Middle School (6-8)
- High School (9-12)
- Individual (Independent / Pro)
This year, all clubs and teacher-led classrooms are now combined within their respective categories. The Individual category allows participants to compete independently, without any school, club, or teacher affiliation.
Difference between School and Individual Competition Categories
School Category: this category is for any competitor who is school-aged and is affiliated with a teacher or a club.
Teachers and Club sponsors are eligible to win a FREE CodeBot or CodeX if one of their participants wins their grade-level
band of competition.
Indy Category: this category is for any competitor not attached to a teacher, club or school. The top Indy competitor
will win a FREE CodeBot or CodeX. Note: the Indy category is for all age levels, and students may be competing against very
advanced competitors.
Registration
Important Information:
- To be eligible to win prizes, ensure that students register before 11:59 PM CT on October 25, 2024.
- To compete in the School Category (not Indy), teachers must email kathy@firialabs.com for a free competition license.
- Indy competitors can register directly on the site without a license.

Prizes
The top winner for each category will win a Python with CodeX Kit (opens in a new tab) or Python with Robots Kit (opens in a new tab) for their associated teacher. The top winner in the Individual category will receive the same prize. For participants outside of the United States, the top winner will receive a 1-year license seat to Virtual Robotics (opens in a new tab) for their school.
Rules
- Registration is open starting Wednesday, September 4, 2024.
- Competition is open from October 1-31, 2024.
- Registration closes on Friday, October 25, 2024 at 11:59 PM Central Time.
- Individual student entries must be age 13 and up. Younger students can have a parent or teacher register them for participation.
- Cheating is forbidden, under penalty of disqualification from the Haunted Code Chronicles. Cheating means:
- public release of solutions
- exploitation of a flaw in the system
