Computer Requirements

CodeSpace works with most computers, but there are a few specific requirements that must be satisfied for correct operation.

Gear Up!

  • Our kits come with everything you need, including hardware, cables, and sensors.
  • Each student will need a computer with a recent version of the Chrome web browser (v65 or later).

Computer / OS:

  • Chromebooks work great – just make sure they are up to date.
    • To check, type chrome://help in the address bar of Chrome.
  • Windows 10 should work with no additional USB drivers needed.
  • Mac OS X 10.13 and later should also work with no additional drivers.
  • Windows 7 or prior unfortunately will not work.
  • VMware thin clients will require a USB forwarding rule configuration for the micro: bit devices.
  • Linux OS is also supported! See here for configuration details.

Notes:

  • When the CodeBot or micro:bit is plugged into a computer, it will appear as a USB “mass storage device” - just like a flash drive. This is not required for normal classroom use! So don’t worry if your school has a policy preventing flash drives, students will still be able to use their devices.
